Coleg Trefeca 250 year Celebrations
Pentecost weekend, May 17 - 19th saw the 250
year celebrations since the foundation stone of
the main building was laid, and Howell Harris
established a Christian Community Teulu Trefeca
(the Trefeca Family).
Year 5 children from Talgarth school and from
Ysgol y Bannau, the Welsh medium school in
Brecon, performed a bilingual musical show,
written especially for the occasion by Aled
Lewis Evans and directed and produced by Siān
Drinan and Stevie Atkins.
The marquee in the grounds was packed with
appreciative audiences of around 230 and 200
people on the Friday and Saturday evenings
respectively.
On Saturday afternoon the rain held off for the
open afternoon, where a Folk Dance group from
Pontypool performed Welsh folk dancing and
encouraged people to join in too!
There were pony rides for children, a chance to
make and paint clay pots, to watch and talk to
people demonstrating spinning and tapestry, to
see the newly refurbished Howell Harris Museum
and join a guided tour around the building.
On the Sunday a celebration service involved the
assembly of symbolic items into a time capsule
which was ceremonially buried outside near the
cross at the front of the College at the close
of the service.
Many members of the Teulu
Trefeca network were involved in the planning
and organising of these celebrations. It was an
opportunity for the Teulu to celebrate its
historic origins.
It was also a visible demonstration of the power
and joy of Christian community today.
