The History
of Coleg Trefeca
Trefeca was
the home of Howell Harris (1714 - 1773) who,
with Daniel Rowland and William Williams, led
the evangelical revival which began in Wales
with the conversion of Harris and Rowland in
1735.
Harris was a contemporary of George Whitefield,
John and Charles Wesley and the Countess of
Huntingdon who, in 1768, established her college
near Trefeca.
In 1750, Harris withdrew to Trefeca where, two
years later, he formed the Trefeca Family, a
remarkable experiment in communal living.
Today, the old house, which is a listed
building, is still the heart of the college, set
in 5 acres of grounds in the beautiful Brecon
Beacons National Park. The sense of Christian
family is still strong.
